Our Carthage Eye Doctors

Our practice is led by Mike Hassell, O.D., who has dedicated himself to treating residents of Carthage and the surrounding areas for years. He values building relationships with his patients to individualize their care while working alongside our attentive technicians and optical staff.

Specialized Eye Care

At OPMT, we have doctors who have developed a strong skill set in specialty eye care services for conditions that require a unique approach. We offer vision therapy, low vision rehabilitation, dry eye treatment, and care for vision impairment caused by neurological disorders or brain injuries.

Sometimes the eyes and vision-related areas of the brain need to be exercised, challenged, and trained in targeted ways to help you see better. This is true for eye movement, or oculo-motor conditions particularly common in children, such as amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes). Our team provides in-office sessions of vision therapy, using innovative and engaging tech like the Sanet Vision Integrator and Vivid Vision virtual reality, to teach eyes to better work with each other and with your brain.
Low vision is an impaired vision condition, often caused by other eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration, that cannot be improved with eyewear or surgical methods. Our doctors are uniquely qualified and experienced in helping patients adapt to their vision level and get the most out of what they can see. If you’re diagnosed with low vision, we’ll work with you to manage it and improve your quality of life.
The connection between the eyes and the brain is integral to your ability to see well. A neurological disorder, like multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy; or a traumatic brain injury, such as stroke or whiplash; can disrupt or damaged that critical link. We have caring experts trained in this specialized area who will guide you through therapeutic activities that reset and retrain your eye-to-brain pathway to bring you better vision.
You may have dry eye disease if you struggle with itchy, red-looking, painful, watery eyes or have blurry vision — and we can help you get relief. Dry eye generally has two main causes: either not enough tears or low-quality tears. We use our advanced diagnostics to pinpoint the source of your dry eye, and work to create a customized plan. These can include in-office treatments like LipiFlow® and punctal plugs, and at-home solutions like medicated eye drops.
